Social and Spiritual Distancing

Separation – Social and Spiritual Distancing

As part of the measure to curb the Covid-19 pandemic, the WHO recommended social distancing. What is social distancing? According to the CDS, ‘Social distancing, also called “physical distancing,” means keeping a safe space between yourself and other people who are not from your household. To practice social or physical distancing, stay at least 6 feet (about 2 arm lengths) from other people who are not from your household in both indoor and outdoor spaces.’ This separation and distance is meant to protect you and others and limit the spread of a deadly virus.

In the spiritual, believers are also required to practice spiritual distancing to protect themselves from sin and deadly infections. The wages of sin is death and contracting sinful habits from others could potentially lead to a spiritual death.

In very clear term, God’s word tells us to be separate people.

2 Corinthians 6:14-18Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? 15 And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel? 16 And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. 17 Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you, 18 And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.

This doesn’t mean that we should not interact with people, it means we find out those attitudes that they possess and manifest that can infect us and ruin our beautiful spiritual life and relationship with God. We are, therefore, allowed to interact with people, do business with people, share with people, show love to people, evangelize people, and while doing this, stay a good distance away from spiritual infections.

Jude 1:23 And others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire; hating even the garment spotted by the flesh.
