Victory over sin

Victory over sin

Romans 7:7‭-‬8

What shall we say then? Is the law sin? Certainly not! On the contrary, I would not have known sin except through the law. For I would not have known covetousness unless the law had said, “You shall not covet.” But sin, taking opportunity by the commandment, produced in me all manner of evil desire. For apart from the law sin was dead. Romans 7:7‭-‬8NKJV

Sin is defined as the breaking of the law. The possibility to do wrong things was there before the law came, the coming of the law made sin exceedingly sinful. The law is good, but we are carnal. There is a natural tendency to break the law because of the weaknesses of the flesh.

Romans 7:14‭-‬15 NKJV says “For we know that the law is spiritual, but I am carnal, sold under sin. For what I am doing, I do not understand. For what I will to do, that I do not practice; but what I hate, that I do.”

There are two laws at war in the believers life and he must submit to one. No one can serve two masters at a time.

God’s salvation plan contains the requirement to overcome the weakness of the flesh. 2 Corinthians 5:17 says ” if any man be in Christ he is a new creature, old things are passed away; behold all things are become new.” In Christ we died to the law to be married to Christ so that we can bear godly fruit. Sin no longer have dominion over us.

Romans 7:4 NKJV says, “Therefore, my brethren, you also have become dead to the law through the body of Christ, that you may be married to another—to Him who was raised from the dead, that we should bear fruit to God.”

Victory over sin and death was gotten at the cross. When Christ was crucified,we were crucified with him. So we died to sin and when he resurrected, we resurrected in him into newness of life. The law at work in us is the law of the spirit of life in Christ Jesus which has set us free from the law of sin and death.

Romans 8:2‭-‬4 NKJV says, “For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death. For what the law could not do in that it was weak through the flesh, God did by sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, on account of sin: He condemned sin in the flesh, that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.”

In conclusion, walk in the spirit so that you do not fulfil the lust of the flesh, mind the things of the spirit, set your affection on things above where Christ is seated in glory. In that way you distant yourself from sin. You are a debtor to the Spirit to live by the detects of the Spirit. Kill your flesh daily and you will have victory over sin.

Dear God, thank you for giving me victory over sin through the cross of Christ. Let the Spirit that raised Jesus from the death quicken my mortal body to live a holy life. Amen!
