WINNING WITHOUT WORDSFlorence Jornsen
“your conversation is powerful enough to convey a message that will convict and convert a cruel world without words” _FJ
1 Peter 3 :1 “Likewise, ye wives, be in subjection to your own husbands; that, if any obey not the word, they also may without the word be won by the conversation of the wives;”
The word conversation is from the Greek word Anastrophe which means behavior or manner of life. Manner speaks louder than voice, in the words of the apostle, we are a written epistle to the world. The world is watching us.
My pastor once told me a story of a certain missionary who lived in a particular village, he never preached the gospel for one day, but he was known for good works till his death; he was buried in the village. Thereafter, another missionary was sent to the same village, this one unlike the first began preaching the good news about Jesus. On one occasion as he was preaching about Jesus, the villagers approached him and said “we know whom you are talking about, he is no more, come and see where he was buried”. Even after his death his manner of life could still lead souls to Jesus.
In a message ‘the winning relationship’ by Steward Godwin, he pointed out that the wives in the context of this scripture refer to those who have the knowledge of Christ (Christians) while the husbands refer to those who need the knowledge of Christ (unbelievers). The most effective way to win the unbelievers is by our chaste conversation (honorable behavior or good character, pure and reverent life style). Apostle Peter puts it this Way,
1 Peter 2:12 “Be careful to live properly among your unbelieving neighbors, then even if they accuse you of doing wrong, they will see your honorable behavior, and they will give honor to God when he judges the world”.
Prayer Dear God, may I win sinners to Christ by my life style, amen.
